The Best Gourmet City You’re Not Talking About…Yet

Often times, I hear talk of various gourmet food scenes, and one always gets left out of the conversation. Rochester, New York has one of the best gourmet food and drink scenes in the entire nation. However, it unfortunately often falls under the radar for cities recognized as gourmet food cities. For this reason it remains a completely underrated city when it comes to acknowledgement and recognition for fantastic restaurants, and cocktail lounges.

I’ve spent years diving into the local food scene, and writing about various restaurants. What I have found is that you can find a plethora of unique cultural eateries, highly diverse restaurants, dynamic high end culinary experiences, and still enjoy a delightful affordable meal at a local staple. I have always found this to be important for a community to have affordable to high end restaurants to ensure that there is an enjoyable meal for all types of engagement from the truly dynamic curated dish to a warm comfort meal. Rochester has all of this and beyond.

For years, Rochester’s food scene has continued to grow, and now more than ever, you can find unique festivals and dining experiences throughout the year that honor and elevate the culinary and cocktail game in the region. You will even find celebrations of culture and city planning through events like the Lilac Festival which is a free event that happens each and every year, and has occurred continuously for over 129 years. Interestingly, chefs and mixologist use this festival to integrate lilac flavors into certain mixed drinks, beers, ciders, or dishes that are served at the fest. It’s a highly unique experience that comes only but once a year.

Many have become aware now that Rochester, New York is an underrated city, but I am willing to state that it is the best gourmet city that many have not dived into yet, and I can assure you that it is a heavy hitter when it comes to flavor, unique experiences, culinary crafts, curated cocktails, dynamic meals, and importantly, great service.
