Never a Bad Time at Bar Bad Ending

The Upper Monroe neighborhood, east of the 490 highway and east of the Monroe Branch Library, has changed over the past few years, but its character persists. One of the biggest changes to the neighborhood lately has been the changing hands of the Rosen Krown, a local dive bar that boasted pub fare and a lively live music scene. In its place stands Bar Bad Ending, a refreshed version of the local haunt with a new menu, Sunday brunches, a solid beer list, and the continuation of a live music scene that features touring and local musicians whose music tears through the ceiling a few nights of the week, mostly on the weekends.

In many ways, Bar Bad Ending pays tribute to thirsty night owls and uplifts the fringes of the local music scene. It’s underrated but glorified, it is edgy but warm and welcoming because at its core, it is a community space where members gather over a few drinks, a few laughs, great food, and live music to jam the night away.

When you enter, you’ll notice some changes that the owners of Bar Bad Ending have made. The space has been elevated, and the walls painted black. In the low lighting, it is a haven for those craving an eclectic blend of punk, emo, experimental, and indie music, and those who thirst for a dark place to hang with the homies, drink a Genny, and just vibe on a night out. Local and touring artists frequently grace the stage, filling the air with musical vibrations while the echoes of bargoers ring through the air, and the smell of a chopped cheese permeates ubiquitously across the dim room.

The food at Bad Ending is enticing, with delicious options like wings, matzo ball soup, the chopped cheese, and the bits that keep regulars satiated and coming back for more. On karaoke nights, the mic is yours, adding a touch of unpredictability to an already electric atmosphere. If you’re seeking a spot with dark lighting, an edgy-friendly vibe, and a dynamic music scene then this is the place to be. There is never a bad time at Bar Bad Ending.
