Celebrate the Full Moon at The Spirit Room
Elephant bust hanging atop The Spirit Room bar space
The Spirit Room on State St. is Rochester’s most eclectic bar and entertainment venue. The space is famous for its macabre performances, poetry readings, karaoke, and open mic nights, and blues and folk performances that occur every week. For those who have imbibed at this bizarrely curated watering hole, one thing is for sure: The Spirit Room has brought out the best and most ghoulish in all of us at one time or another, but there is never a dull moment to be had at this enchanting saloon.
Decorated with antiquated furniture, sideshow-esque memorabilia, and an extravagant sculpted elephant bust (tusks and all), the Spirit Room is a rallying place for generations of music enthusiasts, talented actors, singers, artists, and craft cocktail connoisseurs. It provides a creative environment for those who coexist and dwell on the fringes of society, allowing us to be our authentic selves.
There is always music playing in the great halls of the Spirit Room. Visit during the Rochester Fringe Festival and you’ll catch some notable traveling acts. Drop in during open mic nights, and you’ll find local Rochester talent expressing themselves across a diverse musical spectrum. They also feature regular Tarot readings with local readers who will grace you with their unique perspectives. Who knows, maybe you’ll conjure up the infamous Fox Sisters (Not really).
