Buffalo. Beats. Lucky Day Whiskey Bar.
A jazz trio plays under the Buffalo mount at Lucky Day Whiskey Bar in Buffalo, New York.
Coming across a semi-dark cocktail lounge with a groovin’ jazz band across the bar, and an extensive selection of spirits, is one of my idyllic nights out when I’m hanging about town.
Something about the dim lights is soothing, easing that feeling of general social anxiety, and gives the room a sort of magical, twilight-esque feel. Pair that with an energetic jazz ensemble, one that booms with a moving bass, a steady and rhythmic high hat, and black keys dancing across a keyboard. That is the vibe I discovered at Lucky Day Whiskey Bar in Downtown Buffalo on Pearl Street.

If you’re lucky enough, and you enter Lucky Day Whiskey Bar on a great day, the first thing you may notice is a vibrant music ensemble jamming inside the bar. Next is the dark ambience and dim lights shining across an extensive wooden wall of spirits, particularly whiskey, and numerous other spirits glowing on the shelves. A sliding library ladder waits eagerly to the left of the bar, ready to swing across to find a bottle amongst the vast curated section of spirits. Finally, looking up, you notice that fixed on the left wall is a large mounted Buffalo, a swift reminder that you’re in Buffalo, New York— just in case you forgot.
The restaurant area seating, including a balcony section. There are lovely tapestries that help section off each seating space on the main floor.
The spirits selection is extensive, and you can find some prime pours if your money is right. But, don’t let that be a deterrent because there are plenty of options at a great price, especially if you drop in to enjoy their sweet happy hour that runs from 4 - 6 pm daily. As for the space, it is a sight to behold. There is balcony seating, and the building is an aged brick building with classic wood decor and plenty of artwork. Lucky Day Whiskey Bar is a gem hidden in plain view in downtown near the historic McKinley Monument at Niagara Square, and the Buffalo Convention Center.
